Silk Road Mountains & Monuments

With an explosion of interest in the cultural treasures of the Silk Road, this timely walking holiday provides a thorough exploration of the ancient Silk Road cities contrasted with delightful day walks in two scenic mountain ranges that offer a tranquil setting after the hustle and bustle of the cities.

Highlights include the architectural jewels of Bukhara, Khiva and Samarkand, the traditional Uzbek villages of the Nuratau mountain region and the beautiful alpine-like scenery of the Chimgan Mountains.

In August last year, Operations Assistant, Linda, travelled to Uzbekistan to sample this brand new trip. And though she had seen many photographs beforehand of the Silk Road’s architectural delights, witnessing the scale and intricacy of each monument up-close was a truly magical experience.

In the mountains, she loved walking from village to village and staying with the local families in guest houses where she was made to feel so welcome by their generous hospitality and homemade cuisine. She particularly enjoyed relaxing in their beautiful gardens after a day’s walking on the picturesque mountain trails.

Linda would recommend this trip for anyone who prefers a more active style of holiday, looking to discover the cultural wonders of the Silk Road as well as some stunning mountain scenery.
