Classic Mekong River Cruise, Saigon to Angkor Wat in Style

In this new video, our Flights Manager, April, shares her amazing experience cruising the waters of the mighty Mekong River on board the luxurious Mekong Pandaw.

April’s journey starts in Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, in the south of Vietnam. Here she stays in a 5* centrally located hotel and enjoys a comprehensive sightseeing tour of the city including a visit to the haunting Chu Chi Tunnels.

After two nights in Saigon, April embarks on a seven night cruise from the My Tho port on the Mekong Delta. Stepping aboard the Mekong Pandaw cruise boat, she is struck both by the elegant styling and the incredibly welcoming crew who deliver faultless service from start to finish. As the video shows, the Pandaw is known as the ‘most splendid ship on the Mekong’ for good reason. The rooms are spacious with some lovely touches of comfort including natural stone showers, panoramic windows and personal deck space. The boat has a spa, gym, library and impressive teak deck, together with a first rate restaurant and nightly entertainment.

Each day, the cruise begins with a generous buffet breakfast followed by a morning excursion led by expert guides. Lunch is then taken on board followed by a second excursion in the afternoon. As April says, the excursions are varied and interesting and can involve visits to schools, markets and temples, country walks or craft demonstrations in welcoming villages. Much can also be observed of local life from the comfort of the deck; relaxing and watching life on the river unfold as you drift gently by.

Crossing into Cambodia, the Mekong Pandaw spends a full day moored at the busy capital Phnom Penh where there is a guided tour of many of the key cultural and historic sights of the city as well as time to explore on your own. Setting sail again the cruise follows the picturesque Tonle Sap River where there’s an opportunity to see rare Irrawaddy dolphins in the wild.

The finale of the cruise is a delightful farewell dinner with the crew and fellow travellers, before disembarking to end the holiday with an in-depth tour and sunset views of the stunning Angkor Wat Temple complex; a fitting climax to a splendid holiday.

April sums up her time cruising the Mekong through Vietnam and Cambodia as a “truly inspiring and memorable experience that she cannot recommend enough”.
