Hugh Thompson treks the mighty Dolomites
Author and adventurer Hugh Thompson recently strode out on our circuit trek in Italy’s Dolomite Mountains. He was blown away by the dramatic scenery, delicious food and warm welcome waiting for him in the South Tyrol. This mountainous area in northern Italy retains its own unique traditions, history and language. Hugh also discovered the role these soaring mountains played in the First World War.

‘Having trekked all over the world, I can safely say that this intelligently chosen MK route through the Dolomites combines fabulous scenery with the best mountain food I've ever tasted. And all within a week out of the UK.’
Mountain Kingdoms’ fully supported trek is perfect for anyone who likes to mix adventure with good food and comfort. Travelling through the heart of the Dolomites, you’ll stay in delightful mountain rifugio, carefully selected for their delicious Italian cuisine and spectacular settings. All luggage is transported between rifugio, allowing walkers to carry just a day pack.
The dramatic landscape stretches from wild alpine meadows, through cool woodland to the pillars, pinnacles and colossal rock walls of the towering Dolomitic peaks. Our circuit takes you through the Fanes- Sennes-Braies National Park, under the Tofane mountains, across the breathtaking Forcella del Lago pass and up the spectacular Lagazuoi massif. The circuit concludes on the outskirts of the refined South Tyrolean town of Cortina d’Ampezzo.
