Temple Trails & Homestays in Bhutan

Unspoiled valleys

I have very many friends in Bhutan and I have spent countless hours in their fascinating company. I feel honoured whenever I stay in one of their houses, and have enjoyed some amazing evenings in homestays. This holiday gives others to enjoy the same experience whilst also exploring some of Bhutan's most beautiful and unspoiled valleys.

A treasure for the trekkers!

This hidden part of Nepal is still a treasure for the trekker and remains unspoilt - but visit soon before the new road projects alter the remote peace and isolation of this ancient kingdom. Unforgettable scenery and strong Tibetan influence surviving in the harsh climate add to its uniqueness and our Nepalese trekking crew described it as like being on the moon!

A fabulous adventure.

This is a fabulous adventure. It is a long trek visiting remote Upper Dolpo and Mustang. It crosses five 5,000 m passes so a real sense of achievement on completing it...The Sherpa and crew were professional and food excellent. The itinerary gives plenty of time to acclimatise with a rest day by the side of the beautiful Lake Phoksundo.

Exceptionally memorable.

I loved the remoteness of this trip; it felt like a true wilderness experience, and following in a snow leopard's snowy footsteps up to the Ghami La pass was exceptionally memorable.

Weavers' Trail, Bhutan

Excellent.

I was surprised by the high standard of most of the hotels. The office staff were very helpful especially with my phone calls and All the pre-trip info was excellent and very helpful.

Gentle Walking Sri Lanka

Overall a good holiday (Private Itinerary)

Overall a good holiday but be prepared for a lot of walking around temples either barefoot or with socks. Not just the temple but from the entrance, sometimes quite a distance. Good guide and driver. Hotels generally very good apart from one. A few early morning starts. Very friendly people.

A Perfect Blend of Culture and Trails

It was a walk through history lead by a knowledgeable enthusiastic guide. The homely accommodations got you close to getting to know Japanese cuisine and culture. The walking was challenging enough amidst a peaceful natural environment. The transport links worked well both on the trek and links to airports. Group members were from different countries which made for interesting conversations and understanding.

Our wildlife experiences were exceptional! (Private Itinerary)

This holiday will live long in the memory. Our wildlife experiences were exceptional, especially the gorilla trek which was an absolutely magical hour. Our guide, Raymond, was a delight to spend time with, not only was his wildlife knowledge excellent, but he gave us a real insight into Ugandan life. All our lodges were great - well located with good, friendly service and the logistics couldn't have been any smoother from arrival to departure. We would recommend Uganda to anyone if you want an African wildlife experience that is very different and immensely rewarding.

Sahara Camel Trek, Morocco

Truly a trip of a lifetime!

We had the most magical trip in Morocco and can’t thank Steve and MK enough for offering this unforgettable adventure. Jaouad, our guide, was exceptional: kind, patient, and encouraging making the whole trip so much fun. He organised everything seamlessly, from planning the days, pitching tents, to sharing rich insights about the landscape and culture. Trekking across the desert with Salah and Salem was a true privilege; through sandstorms and towering dunes, their skill and warmth shone through. The camels were a joy and Mohammed the chef amazed us with next-level meals cooked on just three small gas stoves - fresh salads, beautifully presented dishes, endless tea and coffee, and even surprise homemade doughnuts. From stunning sunsets to camping to epic hikes up the Golden dune, the trip was perfectly designed - truly a trip of a lifetime!

Great trip!

Great hotels, good walking, even though a few days had to use different trails they were all very good. great support from the team throughout.

Sri Lanka is a beautiful country

Sri Lanka is a beautiful country . Walking sections of the Pekoe trail was a perfect way to enjoy the tea area .

Sahara Camel Trek, Morocco

Superb!

This is a beautiful walk through all kinds of desert - from sand to flat plains and back to dunes. The food is just right and the team look after all your needs. Superb!

A very special trek.

I was privileged to join Steve on his first expedition across Lalung La. The route is beautifully diverse, beginning with several days acclimatisation visiting Paro Valley temples as we made our way up to Chomolhari Base Camp through gorgeous native woodlands, before climbing across remote mountain passes and finally descending to the truly spectacular Tiger's Nest. The walking is strenuous in places but the team made it feel easy... the term "fully supported" doesn't do justice to excellent food, comfy campsites and the best toilet facilities I have experienced camping! This was a very special trek, combining spectacular remote scenery with insights into a deeply spiritual culture. Bhutan leaves an imprint on the soul. Hoping to joining you again one day soon.

Winter Walk in the Jebel Sahro

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

I really enjoyed the contrast between the City time (in Marrakech) and the time on trek. The trek scenery was stark but staggering and the whole support team were excellent. The level of food produced on trek was wonderful. Not the easiest of treks as the paths are 'off the beaten track' but I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

Patagonia's W Trek & Tierra del Fuego

We enjoyed the Patagonia trip very much! (Private Itinerary)

We enjoyed the Patagonia trip very much! The W hike was great, our guide really nice and very helpful, camping as comfortable as it’s possible, food good and plenty. The Eco camp was a treat! We were lucky with the weather as well. The continuation in Argentina was also fabulous. Catafale a charming town and glacier impressive. Ushuaia we loved and the activities there were wonderful, hiking, paddling and undisturbed nature. Specially the guides were great as well.

Kerala Walking & Wildlife Holiday

A very varied trip

A lovely chance to see some of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. A very varied trip with beautiful landscapes, interesting food and a variety of wildlife. We really enjoyed the variety from the calm of the riceboat trip to the hustle and bustle of Madurai and Munnar.

Gentle Walking Laos

Excellent and varied tour! (Private Itinerary)

This trip offers an excellent and varied guided tour of this fascinating country. Our local guides were all friendly and informative and looked after us very well, making sure everything went smoothly. Plenty of opportunities to visit beautiful temples and colourful local markets.

Gentle Walking Sri Lanka

We loved Sri Lanka (Private Itinerary)

We loved Sri Lanka - such a variety of things to do and see, great food and really friendly people. We visited historical ruins and temples, walked through tea plantations, went on safari while staying at a eco-glamping site. Seeing wild elephants and other wildlife was very special. We went to the coast and swan with turtles, and ended up in Colombo to watch the cricket!

Absolutely fantastic

The beauty of this trip was in the bonds between people. Karma, our guide, and the rest of the trek team were absolutely fantastic. They were knowledgeable, spiritual, had wonderful senses of humour, and clearly enjoyed each other's company and were passionate about their jobs. The other trekkers that I was lucky enough to share the trip with were equally wonderful company. The way Mountain Kingdoms sets up the trip ensures that you get plenty of time to get to know the other people on trek, but equally you can get your own space in your tent or wandering about in the evening. This trip is particularly adventurous. Passing between valleys puts you into completely different worlds; from sweeping steppes with roaming yaks to luscious, rhododendron-filled bowls. The achievement of reaching Taktsang at the end is so satisfying after a challenging few days crossing the mountains.

Bhutan is a magical realm.

My first trek to Chomolhari Base Camp was in 2003. Delighted to be there again in 2025. The support team are all very skilled and knowledgeable. To see the Mountain again close up was a joy. Bhutan is a magical realm with wonderfully kind people. You have to be fit for this Trek but the rewards are well worth the effort. I was very pleased to reach the Bonte La Pass through some fascinating scenery.
