Bhutan's first international festival featured in The Guardian newspaper

Last month there was a magnitude of excitement as Bhutan hosted its very first annual International Festival. People from all over the world travelled to the remote Himalayan Kingdom to take part in the 10 day celebrations, and we helped organise travel arrangements for Jane Dunford, Travel Editor for The Guardian, to be a part of it. You can read about Jane's experience online on The Guardian.
Bhutan is place where Gross National Happiness takes priority over GDP and is a kingdom that takes great care in protecting its traditions and cultures from the modern world. However, Bhutan understands that change due to influences from other countries is inevitable, and so the aim of the festival was, as Jane described it, "an ancient realm’s first steps towards engaging with a more complicated world".
Following Jane's visit to the festival, we took her on a tour to see some of Bhutan's most fascinating sights, including Punakha Dzong, the precariously positioned Taktsang Monastery, Chimi Lhakhang, and beautiful forested valleys; all of which can be visited during our Gentle Walking Bhutan holiday. She described Bhutan as a land of "happiness, benevolent royals, jaw-dropping beauty and magical saints".
