Clarée Valley Walking Holiday

This was such a wonderful trip and a very special place! The Clarée Valley has got to be one of the most beautiful areas I have been to. It is hiking and photography heaven. Antoine is a brilliant guide, very friendly and a fountain of knowledge. I would love to go back!

Ecuador and the Galapagos Safari

This trip combines exploring on foot in the north of Ecuador, staying in magnificent haciendas steeped in history and of course experiencing all the Galapagos Islands have to offer. Actually staying on the Galapagos Islands and being able to stroll around in the early mornings and evenings really added to the experience of being here. It was a time to chat to local people, relax and reflect on the days activities. As an alternative to a cruise I would really recommend it.

Nyika Plateau & Liwonde Walking Safari

It’s not difficult to see why travellers return from Malawi with warm memories. Around every turn I was greeted with welcoming smiles and spectacular scenery.

Ecuador and the Galapagos

What a fabulous trip! This holiday offers one of the most inspiring and varied experiences of any of Mountain Kingdoms’ many trips. One day you are wandering the colonial streets of Quito and staying in great lodges and hotels, while the next you marvel at the stunning wildlife of the Galapagos Islands, have close encounters...

Druk Path Trek

Druk Path Trek

The trip was well organised and the problems we encountered were dealt with very well.

Camino de Santiago

The Camino del Norte has many treasures to discover; the friendly local people, the wonderful local delicacies at fabulous, atmospheric hotels such as Parador de Vilalba and Pazo Santa Maria, walking through rural Northern Spain through pretty forest trails, and of course, arriving at the imposing Santiago de Compostela, to complete the pilgrimage.

Gentle Trekking Nakasendo Trail

Nakasendo Trail

This was a lovely holiday. Travelling everywhere by public transport, staying in a ryokan, minshukus and a temple, and walking every day were unexpected highlights. As well as the Nakasendo Trail itself, we particularly enjoyed our stay at the temple in Koya-san and walking the Yamanobe No Michi trail, as well as visiting Nara and Kyoto.

Cardamom Mountains Trails

Wonderful holiday to Cambodia

This was a well organised and wonderfully varied trip. The conversations with local people about their country were part of what made it special for me as well as the many amazing sights. There were some added delights that were a complete surprise, like seeing fireflies on the river at Kampot, delicious food and delightful hotels.

Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Trek

Kumano Kodo trek

We were well looked after.

Silk Road to Samarkand Tour

Well organised trip to Samarkand

What we enjoyed about travelling with Mountain Kingdoms was the small group size. We were the smallest group we saw and for us that made the trip all the more special and manageable. A well organised trip.

Three Peaks of the Balkans

Enjoy the Stunningly Beautiful Balkans

If anyone is looking for an alternative to overcrowded routes in popular European mountain ranges the Balkans is certainly it. Mountain Kingdom's '3 Peaks of the Balkans' trek really whets the appetite for further exploration of this stunningly beautiful area. It has all the intrepid hiker could want: incredible scenery, the chance to see flora and fauna in abundance and the opportunity to experience the warm hospitality of the balkan people. I will definitely be returning!

Three Peaks of the Balkans

Beautiful scenery and wild flowers, and great hospitaility

A very enjoyable trip. The scenery was beautiful; the wild flowers – gentians, orchids, primulas, geums, etc – provided the best display we have ever seen (including in the Alps), the accommodation and food were generally very good and the itinerary was well planned (it was good to intersperse the trekking with trips to two beautiful monasteries; and we liked having a full last day of trekking – by contrast, some trips peter out with only a brief walk on the final day). Semir Kardovic was an excellent guide and we enjoyed his company.

Definitive Cultural Tour of Bhutan

Bhutan tour

A well planned adventure in a lovely country. Very high quality transport. I even got to meet the king! Everything seemed to have been thought of.

Annapurna Circuit

Excellent organisation. Our leader Mani was an interesting guide with tremendous knowledge of local customs, flora and fauna. During the trip I wasn't feeling very well and the leader was very supportive. All staff we had contact with in Nepal were most helpful.

Excellent organisation

We value the slick organisation of a Mountain Kingdoms holiday. Transfers, transport and provisions were all excellent. This was our 4th Mountain Kingdoms holiday and lived up to expectations. The Brahmaputra river cruise exceeded expectations. Excellent food, accommodation and service.

Definitive Cultural Tour of Bhutan

Definitive Cultural Tour of Bhutan, 8th April 2017

We had the most unforgettable holiday in Bhutan. Apart from visiting all the cultural sites, we were invited to join local people having a picnic at the Paro Tsechu, listened to the nuns singing their prayers at the Kila Gompa nunnery set high in the mountainside and even tried our hand at archery, their national sport. Our guide was exceptional and all the arrangements for our stay were excellent. We felt very privileged to have been able to visit this beautiful country and it's people.

Lares Trek & Royal Inca Trail

It was great to visit mountain communities and to trek traditional ancient paths once used by the Incas and still in constant use by the local farmers today. The high passes that you cross feel wild and remote, but one of the great pleasures of the trek was meeting locals along the way, herding their llamas and tending to their high pastures. The Sacred Valley, with its amazing Inca remains, can at times feel quite busy, but out on the Lares trek you really do get away from it all.

Spirit of Shackleton, Antarctica

Spirit of Shackleton, Antarctica cruise

We want you to know that we thoroughly enjoyed it all. The ship was excellent - the team was super, the Captain too, and they all did their very utmost to give everybody the best possible experience, and some of the lectures were outstanding. The general ship’s crew were also excellent and everything was done or provided to a high level, with a smile and obvious willingness. Unfortunately the desserts were irresistible! It was certainly a well-run and happy ship. So many thanks to Mountain Kingdoms - to Jim for his well-timed phone call that put us on a ship with the desired route with only a six-month wait (many on board had booked two years in advance), for April’s efficient flight booking and Liz’s overall organisation and question answering. Mountain Kingdoms have been recommended by us already, so hopefully you’ll get some more bookings. We hope to travel again with you in the future.

Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Trek

One of the best holidays in our lives

We can honestly say that our Kumano Kodo holiday (2017) has been one of the best in our lives and we enjoyed every minute of our amazing trip. We particularly enjoyed the combination of nature, exercise and culture. We are grateful for the variety of places to stay, from Japanese B&B to large modern hotels to monastery lodgings. We believe that this smart choice of venues to visit and places to stay gave us a unique opportunity to learn about and appreciate the Japanese way of life. And we would like to mention that the trip would not have been the same without our amazing guide, Yumiko. Her attitude to her role has been fantastic. Everything had been organised perfectly and we always knew what to expect. Yumi’s knowledge of Japanese culture and history is superb and she is one of the main reasons why every one of us fell in love with Japan. Yumi went way over and above her duties to make the trip special and memorable for everyone in our diverse group. On several occasions, she even organised an alternative transportation for people who needed to take an easier route. Two people in a group had their birthday during the walk and Yumi had thrown us a surprise party that we would remember forever. We would like to thank the Mountain Kingdom for this amazing holiday and would not hesitate to recommend the agency to all our friends, and our special thanks go to our beloved guide, Yumiko-san.

Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Trek

Kumano Kodo trek, Japan

As ever the trip was very well planned and researched. The balance between trekking and culture was excellent. The opportunity to stay in traditional Japanese inns and the food they provided was a highlight. Our guide, Yumi, was exceptional. She combined trek leading with information about Japanese history and culture superbly - from past experience we know this is a very difficult balance. In addition her organisation and people management were first class, in sometimes difficult circumstances and always with charm and a smile.
