Verdon Gorge Trek, Provence
Steve Berry, our MD, travelled to Provence in southeast France to trek into the Verdon Gorge – the deepest river canyon in Europe and often called the Grand Canyon du Verdon. This short video, which he filmed on the way, shows some of the highlights of his trek.
The video shows the varied terrain and scenery experienced on trek – changing as it does with each descent and ascent of the gorge. The paths passes down steps and through tunnels, sometimes following the trail along the deep floor of the gorge next to the turquoise blue water of the Verdon river, or rising to skirt along the clifftops with wonderful views to enjoy throughout. Indeed, the panoramic views from Rancoumas and those at Pointe Sublime are amongst the most memorable of moments of the entire trek.
Long, hot days on the trail are rewarded with a refreshing cool beer and excellent Provencal food whilst accommodation is in comfortable hotels chosen for their charm and great locations. Starting and ending in Castellane, this circular trek of the Verdon Gorge takes six days to complete.
