Excellent mountain trekking and close-up wildlife encounters make this the all round African experience.
We spend four days in the Arusha National Park, ascending the slopes of the rocky, volcanic Mount Meru (4,562m/15,054ft), overnighting in mountain huts along the way. It’s thrilling to walk within just a few metres of giraffe, elephant and varied bird life. Rhino Point (3,814m/12,586ft) is our intended high point, to watch the sunrise over Kilimanjaro, although for the more adventurous there’s also the chance to reach the summit of Meru itself.
A more leisurely safari follows, firstly from a tented camp in Tarangire National Park and then at the famous Ngorongoro Crater. Apart from the wonderful scenery, our memories of this holiday are sure to include the sightings of lion, rhino, zebra, wildebeest, cheetah and flamingo, that we’re likely to enjoy on these final few days.
