Our journey starts as we cross the Himalaya on the Manali–Leh highway, said to be the second highest motorable road in the world. Arriving in Leh, capital of Ladakh, we enjoy the sights of the Indus Valley before taking a four-day village trek in the hills west of Leh. Gompas (monasteries), such as Hemis and Thikse, and the former residences of the Ladakhi kings including Stok and Shey Palaces, give an insight into this area’s rich heritage and history. Whilst on trek there’s plenty of time to interact with local people and experience village life in the Himalaya of today. The trek will cross passes up to 3,658m/12,000ft high, but will be taken at a leisurely pace to allow for relaxed exploration. The final highlight is the flight back to Delhi over the top of the Himalaya.
