To many people, Angela Rippon has the most enviable job in the world. As a presenter for the BBC Holiday programme, she’s had the opportunity to travel all over the world reporting on both popular tourist destinations and hidden gems. However, ask for her most memorable holiday destination and she’ll reply Bhutan every time.

Angela was lucky enough to take a Bhutan trek, while filming the Holiday programme and she described the experience as absolutely magical.

The King of Bhutan once declared that national happiness was far more important to him than gross national product and Angela believes this is a sentiment that describes the country perfectly. Whilst on her Bhutan trek she encountered many smiling locals that were so gracious in welcoming tourists to their country, most of whom spoke English fluently. Angela described the countryside overlooking the Himalaya as, “Stunning; with dramatic valleys, stunning waterfalls and fast flowing rivers”. The architecture also struck her as extremely distinctive and she described it as a hybrid mixture of Swiss chalets and Buddhist temples.

Angela only had two recommendations for tourists thinking of travelling to Bhutan. The first recommendation is to take a Bhutan trek into the mountains and visit all the Buddhist temples, which are serene and beautifully decorated. Her next tip is to visit a local spa and use some of the traditional herbal remedies which will envelop you in a calm atmosphere and help you to relax after your Bhutan trek.
