There are many different reasons people decide to undertake Bhutan treks, mainly for the wonderful scenery and the chance to experience a unique culture. However, Bhutan treks can also help people improve their fitness levels as they train towards reaching the necessary level of personal fitness to successfully complete their trek.

In inspirational news, we recently learned of an effort by cancer survivors to raise funds for the very worthwhile Australian Cancer Research Foundation. They hope to do this by travelling to Everest Base Camp, trekking from there to Island Peak – and raising $1 million.

A surprising member joined one Everest Base Camp trekking group earlier this year: Coleene Tudor, a 70-year-old great-grandmother from Hereford in the United Kingdom. Despite her age, Ms. Tudor seized an opportunity to walk on Everest when she was invited by a group of former soldiers.

Taking place each year on the same date every year, December 17th, Bhutan’s National Day commemorates the coronation of the first king of Bhutan, Gongsar Ugyen Wangchuk, in 1907. If you book Bhutan treks or tours around this date, you may be lucky enough to participate in the festivities.
